What are the Main Applications of PCBs?

PCB is the abbreviation for Printed Circuit Board. Because it is made by electronic printing, it is called "printed" circuit board. It can be of any shape or size, depending on the application of the electronic equipment. The complicated printed circuit board is a substrate for assembling electronic parts. It is a printed board that connects dots and prints components on a common base material according to a predetermined design. What aspect are small printed circuit boards used for? What are the main applications of PCBs?

As the most common substrate or substrate material of PCB, FR-4 usually exists in many electronic devices. It is made of glass fiber and epoxy resin combined with laminated copper cladding. Some of its main applications include computer graphics cards, motherboards, microprocessor boards, FPGAs, CPLDs, hard drives, RF LNAs, satellite communication antenna feeds, switch-mode power supplies, Android phones, etc. With the rapid development of the printed circuit board industry, it plays an important role in medical equipment, industrial equipment, lighting, and automotive and aerospace industries.

1. The application of PCB in medical equipment

Today, the rapid progress in medical science is closely related to the rapid development of the electronics industry. Many microbiological equipment and other equipment are based on a single printed circuit board, such as pH meter, heartbeat sensor, temperature measurement, electrocardiograph, electroencephalogram, MRI, X-ray, CT scan, blood pressure machine, blood glucose level measurement equipment, incubators and other medical equipment.

2. The application of PCB in industrial equipment

PCB is widely used in the manufacturing industry, especially those industries with high-power machinery and equipment, which rely on high-power operation and high-current circuit drive. Therefore, it is necessary to laminate a thick copper layer on the PCB, which is different from complex electronic PCBs, where the current of these high-power PCBs is as high as 100 amperes. This is particularly important in arc welding, large servo motor drives, lead-acid battery chargers, military industry, clothing cotton machines and other applications.

3. The application of PCB in lighting

We often see LED lights and high-intensity LEDs on the street. These small LEDs can provide high-brightness light and are mounted on PCBs based on aluminum substrates. Aluminum has the property of absorbing heat and dissipating it in the air. Therefore, due to the high power, these aluminum circuit boards are usually used in LED lamp circuits for medium and high power LED circuits.

4. The application of PCB in automobile and aerospace industry

The most common reverberation generated by airplanes and cars uses a PCB called Flex PCB to meet these high-force vibrations and make the PCB more flexible. Flexible printed circuit boards are light in weight, but they can withstand high vibrations. Because of their light weight, they can reduce the total weight of the spacecraft.

Even in a narrow space, the flexible PCB can be adjusted, which is a big advantage of it. These flexible PCBs are used as connectors and interfaces, and can be assembled even in tight spaces, such as behind the panel, under the dashboard etc.
