The EL9011 serves as the mandatory end cap for EtherCAT terminal blocks, ensuring that each ELxxxx terminal assembly is properly terminated on the right‑hand side for both mechanical integrity and electrical protection of the internal E‑bus contacts. It is color‑matched to the EL‑series EtherCAT Terminals, maintaining a consistent appearance across the terminal row and clearly indicating the end of the station. Unlike I/O terminals, the EL9011 has no process data width (0 bits), requires no address or configuration, and provides no diagnostics, functioning purely as a bus end cover.
The housing width is 5 mm, aligned to the narrow EL‑terminal form factor, and it can be mounted side‑by‑side with EtherCAT Terminals both with and without power contacts, so it fits any standard EL terminal block layout. The EL9011 is not a power feed or separation terminal; it does not interrupt power contacts (for that, Beckhoff offers the EL9080) and does not provide renewed infeed or PE connection, it simply covers and protects the exposed E‑bus contacts at the end of the string. Typical current carrying capacity through the bus end area is specified up to 10 A, consistent with EtherCAT Terminal power contacts, though the EL9011 itself does not provide additional connection points.
Environmental ratings include an operating temperature range of −25…+60 °C and a storage temperature range of −40…+85 °C, with permissible relative humidity up to 95% non‑condensing. The module is designed for mounting on a 35 mm DIN rail according to EN 60715, aligned to the last terminal in the block, and meets EN 60068‑2‑6 / EN 60068‑2‑27 shock and vibration and EN 61000‑6‑2 / EN 61000‑6‑4 EMC requirements. Approvals include CE, CCC, UL, ATEX and IECEx, with explosion protection markings ATEX II 3 G Ex ec IIC T4 Gc and IECEx Ex ec IIC T4 Gc, allowing use in Zone 2 hazardous locations as part of an appropriately certified EtherCAT I/O assembly.
Typical applications are any EtherCAT EL terminal station where the last terminal’s open E‑bus contacts must be safely covered, such as control cabinets in machine building, process skids and distributed I/O nodes; the EL9011 is required at the end of every EL terminal group to ensure safe, standards‑compliant termination.
