Do You Know What Is Electrical Drive?

What is an electric motor drive? Generally, we refer to the system used to control the movement of the motor as an electric drive. Electric drive can be applied to any prime mover, such as diesel or gasoline engines, gas or steam turbines, steam engines, hydraulic motors and electric motors as the main energy source. The prime mover provides mechanical energy to the drive for motion control.

Do You Know What Is Electrical Drive

The structure of electrical drive

The main components of electric drive are power modulator, motor, control unit and sensor unit. Some of these elements will be explained in detail below.

Power modulator: The power modulator adjusts the output power of the source. It adjusts the power from the power supply to the motor, so that the motor transfers the required speed-torque characteristic curve of the load. During transient operations such as starting, braking, and reverse gear, the power supply consumes too much current. Excessive current consumption of the power supply unit can overload it or cause a voltage drop. Therefore, the power modulator limits the power and current of the motor. The power modulator converts energy according to the needs of the motor. For example, if the power source is direct current and an induction motor is used, the power modulator converts direct current to alternating current. It also selects the operating mode of the motor, that is, drive or brake.

Control unit: The servo drive unit controls the power modulator, which works with a small voltage and a small power level. The servo drive control unit also operates the power modulator as needed. It also generates commands to protect the power modulator and motor. Used to set the input control signal from the drive operating point input to the controller.

Induction unit: It records specific drive parameters, such as current and motor speed. Mainly used for protection or closed loop operation.

The Structure of Electrical Drive

The advantages of electrical drive

Electric drives have a very wide range of torque, speed and power, and are suitable for most industrial fields.

1. Able to work in any environment.

2. Green and environmental protection. Compared with fuel oil, electric drive does not cause any harm to our environment.

3. The electric drive is suitable for all quadrants of speed and torque level, with a wide range of applications.

4. The efficiency of the drive is very high, and the energy consumption is low.

5. Simple operation and easy maintenance

The disadvantages of electrical drive

1. Power failure makes the entire system completely paralyzed.

2. The application of the drive is limited because it cannot be used where there is no power supply.

3. The drive will cause noise pollution.

4. The initial cost of the system is very high.

5. Its dynamic response is very poor.

6. During conductor breakdown or short circuit, the system may be damaged due to various problems.
