Common Faults and Solutions for YASKAWA Frequency Converters


Switching Power Supply Damage


This is one of the most common faults of inverters, usually caused by a short circuit in the load of the switching power supply. During maintenance, the load circuit of the switching power supply needs to be checked, and after eliminating the short circuit fault, the damaged switching power supply components should be replaced.


OH Overheat Fault


When this fault occurs, the cooling fan should be checked first to see if it is operating. For machines above 30kW, there is an internal cooling fan as well; failure of this fan can also lead to an OH alarm. If the fan is normal, it may be that the heat dissipation channel inside the inverter is blocked or the heat sink is too dusty, requiring cleaning of the heat dissipation channel and heat sink.


UV Undervoltage Fault


When an undervoltage fault occurs, first check whether the input power supply is missing a phase. If the input power supply is fine, then check if there is an issue with the rectification circuit. If the rectification circuit is normal, then check for problems on the DC detection circuit. For 200V-class machines, a UV alarm will occur when the DC bus voltage is below 190Vdc; for 400V-class machines, a fault alarm will occur when the DC voltage is below 380Vdc.
