The KL9010 is an essential system component in Beckhoff’s Bus Terminal (K‑Bus) I/O system, ensuring proper bus communication between the Bus Coupler/Controller and all attached KL/KS terminals. Each Bus Terminal assembly must be terminated at the right‑hand end with a KL9010 (or a functionally equivalent end terminal such as KL9020 for K‑Bus extension), otherwise K‑Bus data exchange cannot be guaranteed and the station may not operate reliably. The KL9010 performs no further functions: it has no process data width (0 bits), no fine‑wire fuse, LEDs, diagnostics, renewed infeed or shield connection, and offers no external connection facility; it simply closes and defines the end of the K‑Bus.
The housing is the standard KL‑12‑8pin compact terminal form with a width of 12 mm, height 100 mm and depth 68 mm, made of polycarbonate, and designed to mount on a 35 mm DIN rail (EN 60715) with a locking mechanism. It connects side‑by‑side with Bus Terminals with and without power contacts using Beckhoff’s double slot and key system, and allows the power contacts (24 V / 0 V / PE) to be looped through with a maximum current of 10 A, though it does not provide its own renewed infeed or additional connection points. Typical weight is around 50 g, and wiring to the KL9010 itself is not required because it has no external terminals; wiring is only made to the functional terminals before it.
Environmental data include an operating temperature range of −25…+60 °C and a storage temperature range of −40…+85 °C, with permissible relative humidity from 5% to 95% non‑condensing, and robustness according to EN 60068‑2‑6 (vibration) and EN 60068‑2‑27 (shock). EMC immunity and emission comply with EN 61000‑6‑2 / EN 61000‑6‑4, and the protection class is IP20, suitable for installation in control cabinets. The KL9010 carries approvals CE, CCC, UL, ATEX, IECEx, DNV GL, cFMus, with explosion protection markings ATEX II 3 G Ex ec IIC T4 Gc, IECEx Ex ec IIC T4 Gc and cFMus Class I, Division 2, Groups A–D / Class I, Zone 2 AEx ec IIC T4 Gc, which allows use at the end of Bus Terminal strings in Zone 2 / Class I Division 2 hazardous areas when installed per Beckhoff documentation.
Typical applications include any K‑Bus terminal group in machinery, building automation and process skids where Beckhoff Bus Terminals are used; every group must end with a KL9010 (or special end terminal) to ensure correct bus communication and safe mechanical termination of the terminal row.
