The 2198-H025-ERS is part of the Allen-Bradley Kinetix 5500 servo drive family, designed for integrated motion over EtherNet/IP and tightly coupled with Logix-based controllers. It operates from a 3-phase AC supply of 195–264 V rms (240 V nom) or 324–528 V rms (480 V nom) and delivers approximately 2.4 kW at 230–240 V and up to 5.1 kW at 400–480 V, with a continuous output current rating of about 11.3 A (0-peak) and 20 A peak for dynamic motion profiles. This makes it well suited for small to medium servo axes in packaging, material handling, assembly and general automation machinery.
The drive includes a hardwired Safe Torque-Off (STO) safety function that can remove torque-producing power from the motor without removing mains power from the drive, helping implement safety functions such as emergency stop and prevention of unexpected restart. STO connections are provided on a dedicated safety connector and can be wired directly to safety relays or integrated into GuardLogix safety systems, allowing multiple Kinetix 5500 drives to share a safety zone. High-bandwidth current and velocity loops (up to roughly 1000 Hz and 300–400 Hz) support fast response and precise position and speed control.
Mechanically, the 2198-H025-ERS is a compact frame 2 drive intended for panel mounting with zero-stack side spacing and adequate top/bottom clearance for cooling airflow. It incorporates an internal shunt resistor (around 50 W) to absorb regenerative energy, offers efficiency up to about 97%, and carries a short-circuit current rating up to 200 kA rms symmetrical when installed with appropriate upstream protection. Typical applications include packaging lines, conveyors, pick-and-place units, indexing tables and other motion systems that require reliable, high-performance servo control with built-in safety.
