Product Description

The Omron CJ1W-TC002 is a CJ-series special I/O Temperature Control Unit designed to provide multi-loop temperature control directly within a PLC system. It accepts direct thermocouple inputs (types R, S, K, J, T, L, B) across four independent loops, eliminating the need for separate stand-alone temperature controllers and simplifying panel wiring. Each loop can be configured for ON/OFF control or advanced PID control with two degrees of freedom, enabling precise temperature regulation in heating and cooling applications such as ovens, extruders, molding machines, and packaging equipment.

The CJ1W-TC002 provides four PNP voltage pulse outputs for heater or control drive signals, typically used to command solid-state relays or power regulators, with short-circuit protection for reliable operation. The unit offers a fast sampling cycle of 500 ms for all loops, ensuring stable and responsive control even when all four channels are active. Built-in features include heater burnout detection (using an external CT with appropriate models), auto-tuning (AT) for easy PID parameter setup, and RUN/STOP control from the PLC CPU via allocated special I/O area bits.

Configuration is handled through DIP switches and PLC settings: an input type switch selects the thermocouple type, while DIP switches set control mode (ON/OFF or PID) and forward/reverse operation. The module supports wide temperature ranges depending on thermocouple type, for example K: −200 to 1300 °C, J/L: −100 to 850 °C, T: −200 to 400 °C, R/S: 0 to 1700 °C, and B: 100 to 1800 °C, allowing use in both low- and high-temperature processes. As part of the CJ I/O Bus, up to 10 CJ1W-TC units can be mounted per rack (CPU plus expansion), enabling scalable multi-zone temperature control within a single CJ/NJ control system.

A screw-type terminal block provides wiring for four thermocouple inputs, four pulse outputs, cold-junction compensation, and 24 VDC supply, simplifying installation and maintenance. The unit follows CJ-series general specifications with 250 mA max internal current consumption at 5 VDC, dielectric strength up to 2000 VAC between specified circuits, and robust industrial vibration/shock ratings. Compact dimensions of 31 × 90 × 89 mm and a weight of about 200 g make the CJ1W-TC002 easy to integrate into crowded control panels. Overall, it is an efficient solution for multi-loop temperature control in PLC-based systems where space, integration, and advanced PID performance are critical.
